If you have ever been to the pet store or the flea market and seen a pet too cute to resist you may have gotten yourself in way over your head. Many pets find themselves at the shelter after chewing their owner’s 3rd pair of shoes or digging up the garden. When considering a pet you should think about size, activity level, grooming requirements, feeding requirements, and temperament. Just because an animal is cute it does not mean it would be a good fit for your family. Pets are a lot like children. They require daily feeding, regular medical care, and they need to be taught...they do not just know what you want. You have to housebreak them and teach them how to sit. While pets can be a wonderful addition to any household they can also be very destructive. It can be a heartbreaking experience if you do not research, choose wisely, and be prepared to put in the work required to have a well behaved and happy pet. So, think before you leap and enjoy your new family member.
