All shelters are all trying to accomplish the same goal….save as many pets as possible. Whether you adopt from a no-kill shelter or a shelter that puts their animals to sleep GOOD FOR YOU!
Many people say they want to adopt from a county shelter that euthanizes so they can save a life but, you are saving a life anywhere you adopt. The problem any shelter has is there are not enough cages to go around. A private shelter can turn animals away when they run out of cages, but where do you think those animals end up? Most of them go right to the county shelter. And before you find fault with the county shelter for putting so many animals to sleep consider this. They have to take animals in even when they do not have any space for them, and when there is not enough room what do you suggest they do with them? They have to make the terrible decision as to which ones stay and which ones are euthanized…and it is just that… a terrible decision. They do not enjoy it nor do they want to do it but they have no choice.
If you do adopt from a no-kill shelter you are freeing up a cage so another animal can come in and be adopted with a guarantee of not being put to sleep.
So, no matter where you adopt your pet, you are saving a life and freeing up a space for another pet to come in. Either way you should feel very good for having done a GREAT thing!!
